JAMES BLACKSHAW @ MI - SO
OCTOBER. 4, 2025 @ 20.30h
OCTOBER. 5, 2025 @ 17.00h
Doors open half an hour before concert.
It´s with great pleasure that we announce two intimate concerts with fingerpicking guitar legend James Blackshaw at mi - so. James recently returned from a 10 year hiatus of music making with the stunning Unraveling in Your Hands. We´ve been fans of his music for a long time and managed to catch James at the end-tail of his upcoming EU tour, on top of his Berlin concert at the Kiezsalon. We absolutely cannot wait. This will be very special.
Initially inspired by the guitarists of the 60’s Takoma label to teach himself fingerpicking, James Blackshaw writes long-form pieces primarily for solo 12-string guitar that are heavily influenced by minimalist composers and European classical music and which use drones, overtones and repeating patterns alongside a strong inclination for melody to create instrumental music that is both intelligent, hypnotic and emotionally charged.
James has toured and performed as member of Current 93 and with Jozef Van Wissem as Brethren of The Free Spirit and toured and played shows with artists such as Swans (whose Michael Gira signed Blackshaw to his Young God label to release two albums in 2009 and 2010), Grails, Meg Baird (Espers), Mountains, Glenn Jones, Sir Richard Bishop, Jose Gonzales, Peter Walker, Alex De Grassi and Hauschka.
We will be taking a minimum of 15€ donation for this concert.
LTD to 15 seats. Reservation only (Max 2 seats pr. reservation!)
Unraveling in your hands is the most straightforwardly beautiful and affecting record he has made since 2010’s All Is Falling—but just in case, he throws his entire body into it: The eponymous 27-minute opener was recorded in a single unedited take, Blackshaw wishing to “push myself to my limits” after his shoulder injury left him wondering if he would ever be able to play again. Whatever “flubs and hesitations” he noticed are imperceptible, or at least part of the deeply human mood of this incredible piece. - Pitchfork (on Unraveling in Your Hands)
